The department has been very actively organizing the workshops and conference for the teachers and students of commerce faculty. The various workshops and conferences arranged by the department as below:

Exploring Commerce Horizon

The objectives behind organizing the conference were – to explore and broaden different perspectives in the commerce horizon and to identify the emerging trends in the field of commerce. The conference was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Preetham Parigi MD, ENIL Ltd. and MD and CEO of Times Infotainment Media Ltd. Prof.

Sathe, Co-ordinator, Research Centre, BMCC, Dr. Hrishikesh Soman, Principal of Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Dr. S.V.Kadavekar, Chairperson, Savkar Chair, University of Pune, Dr. Ravi Chitnis, Principal, MITSOM, Dr. Sanjay Kaptan, HoD, Department of Commerce and Research Centre, Pune, Dr. Ashok Ranade, HoD, Finance, Bharati Vidyapeeth and Dr. Yojana Karve, HoD, Garware College of Commerce were the eminent people who addressed the audience on different topics related to the conference theme.

Personal Financial Planning & Online Share Trading

The objective of this conference was to make the participants aware about personal financial planning and investment avenues, stock market and online share trading. Dr. V .L. Jain, Director, V. L. Jain & Company, Pune inaugurated the workshop. Mr. Arvind Paranjpe, Financial Advisor, Prof. Nandkumar Kakirde, Director, Pune Stock Exchange, Mr. Sadanand Soman – Technical Analyst, Prof. Virendra Tatke , HoD (MBA Dept),Indira College of Engineering on ‘Investments in Mutual Funds’ were invited as the resource person for this conference.

Recent Developments in Indian Banking Sector

The theme of the seminar was the advancements in the banking sector in India and how those contribute to the development of Indian Economy. Dr. Achintan Bhattacharya, Director, National Institute of Bank Management, Pune graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Dr. Arwah Madan, Asso. Prof. in Economics, St. Mira’s College for Girls, Dr. Kalyani Kulkarni, Head of the Department of Economics, Fergusson College, Pune, Mr. Gautam Prakash, Asst. General Manager, College of Agricultural Banking, Pune were the Guest Speakers for this conference.

GST-Law, Awareness & Accounting

CA C.V. Chitale, member of the Executive Committee and Chairman, Direct Taxation Committee of the MCCIA was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. Mr. Yashwant Kasar, Chartered Accountant and Managing Director of MY Financial Management, CA Mr. Subodh Shah and CA Mr. S. S. Dhamne were present as the resource persons for the seminar.

Financial Planning, Market and Investors’ Awareness’

A National workshop on ‘Financial Planning, Market and Investors’ Awareness’ in Association with BSE Investor Protection Fund received huge responses from all over India and over 500 participants registered from Academics and Industry. The inauguration of the workshop was done at the hands of Dr. N.S. Umarani, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SPPU, Pune. Mr. C. Vasudevan, CGN, Head, BSE-IPF Limited, Mumbai, CMA Amit Apte, President, ICAICAMA, Kolkata were the Chief Guests for the workshop and Mr. Sunil Kadam, Registrar, NISM, Navi Mumbai was the Guest of Honor. The workshop got special guidance from the sessions of renowned speakers like CA CV Chitale, Member, Central Council ICAI, New Delhi, Mr Mukund Sabu, and Mr.Neeraj Kapoor, Mr. Mahesh Govande to name the few.

Seminar on GST Awareness

CA Subodh Shah, CMA Narhar Nimkar and CA Abhishek Dhamne were speakers for the seminar. The Seminar received tremendous response from the participants from all the colleges in and around Pune. About 145 participants attended the Seminar. Out of which 75 students were from 16 different colleges affiliated under SPPU.

Economic Growth and Sustainable Development

Dr. Parag Kalkar, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, SPPU was Chief Guest for the Inauguration ceremony. Dr. Narayan Hegde, Principal Advisor, BAIF, Industrialist Mr. Sanjay Orpe, Dr. Pradeep Apte, Gokhale Institute of Economics and Politics, Dr. Shirish Limaye , Symbiosis College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mr. Govind Pitre DGM, Sustainability, Mahindra CIE Automotive Ltd. Mr Abhay Pathak, Head, Sustainability, Tata Motors Ltd. and Ms Pradnya Thakur, Director, Shashwat Eco Solutions Foundation were the renowned personalities as resources for the conference.

Inter College Paper Presentation Competition

To inculcate research culture among students and to provide them an opportunity to make an effective presentation, an Inter-College Paper Presentation Competition are conducted by the department. Prominent topics ranging from local to global issues of the competition were Population- A demographic dividend for India!, CSR as a new branding technique, Work Life Balance- India v/s rest of the world, FDI – Its Pros and Cons, Trends in Commercial Advertising, E-Commerce – Status & Prospects, India – The emerging Business Opportunities, Communicating Across Different Cultures and Post Meltdown Business Strategies. E-Learning v/s Conventional Learning, Nurturing Female Leadership in Indian Organizations, Water Management- A Business Opportunity Use of Social networks for Advertising, Planning Commission v/s NITI Aayog – A Comparative Study, Commercialization of Sports in India, Booming On-line Retail, Green Consumerism, Cashless Economy: Future of India, Social Entrepreneurship: Opportunity and Challenges, E-Waste Management, Role of Media and Demonetization, GST: Need of the Hour and many more.

Mrs. Marcelle Samuel, Head, Associate Professor, Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune, Dr. Sharayu Bhakare, Assistant Professor, Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune, Mr. Vivek Atre, Social Consultant, Dr. Ashok Soman, Ex-Director SIMS, Dr. Vishwas Swami, HoD- Management, Sinhagad College (SIBAR), Dr. Vijay Dhole, Associate Professor, Sinhagad College (SIBAR), Mrs. Shilpa Bhide, Assistant Professor, PUMBA were the renowned personalities who judged and guided the participants of this competition.

Guest Lectures

Numerous guest lectures and presentations are arranged for the students every year by the department. Topics like VAT, CST, & TDS’, GST – Concept & Application, Online Filing of Income Tax Return’ Orientation to CMA Course, Limited Liability Partnership, E-filing of Companies, Revival and Rehabilitation of Companies, Intellectual Property Rights, Rural Marketing, Services Marketing, Digital Marketing, are to name a few topics on which guest lectures are conducted. Dr. Prakash Chaudhary, Ness Wadia College, Dr. Gaikwad, Modern College, Dr. Pawar, HNIMR, CA Rekha Agiwal, CS Onkar Pathak, CS Vaishnavi Pawase, and many more have guided our students.

Environmental Awareness Projects and NGO Connect

The department efforts to take up EVA projects in association with NGO’s have evolved as one of the best practice over this years. The students of SYBCOM take up EVA projects by working with any NGO’s working with Environment issues. They have to get certified from these NGO’s for contributing to the goodness of the environment. Various presentations of NGO’s like ‘Tahaan’, Seva Sahyog, SPSB TARA, Fridays for Nature, etc. are arranged with an objective to create awareness amongst the students about environmental issues like water scarcity, polluted water resources, river cleanliness, segregation of waste, depleting ground water levels, etc. Our students have worked with NGO’s like Green Hills Group, Change We Need, Direct Action Everywhere, Being Volunteer, Seva Sahayog, Nelda, Vrukshayan Foundation, Green Thumb, Rotary Club, Shashwat Vikas, Swachh, Naturewalk Outdoors, Vanarai, Oikos, Eco Friends Community, Youth the Power to Change, Aasra Foundation, etc.

Commerce Horizon (Connect, Co-create, Collaborate)

The Commerce Horizon club works with the objective to create a platform for the students to participate, lead and develop their interests related to Academic and other co-curricular activities. It conducts Commerce Week in which many activities like guest lectures, quiz competition, research paper presentation, idea generation camp, mad adz, student interviews, Management games and many others. These activities have helped students to showcase their talent and skills like leadership, managerial, oratory, team building through participation in the club activities.

Interactive sessions on Vedic Mathematics, Career Opportunities in Banking and Finance, Guidance Session for the Aspirants joining Indian Armed Forces, Alternate Career Opportunities, What I have learnt from Bhagavat Gita, Early age Financial Planning, Budget And Economy, Preparation for MBA Entrance were conducted in the club. Eminent people like Mr. Vijay Kulkarni, Dr. Pallavi Kasande, Counsellor and Consultant, Lt. Col. Ganesh Babu, Mrs. Shruti Shah-Sathe,CA. CS. LLB have spared their time in guiding the students.
